Fantasy Traveling thru Time
History is full of heroes and heroines that speak to our desire to posses grandeur and power. There are those who simply inspire a mystical admiration for the amazing achievements accomplished by such talented and enterprising souls. Many have specific reputations for casanova type sexual conquest and others for seductive luring appeal.
Whatever, looking back on history and reflecting on what events must have surrounded these often larger than life legends compels us to imagine something we can relate to. We know that these people were real and were doing the things that every human must in order to survive. We know that they were compelled by similar desires, passions, and emotions. We also, must believe that they were as vulnerable to tragedy and pain as we are.
So, history is a wealthy resource for building fiction and fantasy around. With historical fiction we can fill in blanks of fantasy that take us to worlds in time that are as near to reality as our minds can conceive. And, to wonder what must have happened behind the closed doors of some of those great powers and times is...well, irresistible.
Like it or not, we love gossip and we will hold up miles of traffic to get a glimpse of gore. We dedicate 100's of television hours to any sex scandal attached to positions of power and fame. We seem to thrive on the smut and dirty laundry of any item of fame. We are especially compelled by the sex story, the broken romance, the scandalous affair. Don't deny it--it is plastered all over our media. It would not be there if we were not willing to buy it.
Which fiction novels and movies sell best? With the ladies, romantic fiction? With the men, sex filled adventure? We have our preferences on how it is presented--but we lust for the sex story and an opportunity to be voyeur to any private intimacy cloaked in a shroud of mystery or mischief.
