Ever wonder why it is that in legends of old, it is always the fair maiden that is tied to the post in offering to the terrible Dragon? Were they really damsels in distress, needing salvation by a brave knight in shining armor? If the Dragon simply required a tasty human meal, wouldn't just about any simple peasant suffice--need it be the loveliest virgin in the kingdom? How did this practice come about? Could it be that there was more to this practice than has survived the ages? Perhaps the Dragons' preference for maidens was something other than a periodic snack? We do know that these maidens, when not saved by the well meaning knights, were taken into the Dragons' lair and never seen again. And we also know that, in this time, there came to be many other unusual creatures lurking on the fringes of medieval culture--misunderstood creatures called demons, gargoyles and monsters. These beings exhibit, strangely enough, physical characteristics that seem very possibly the blending of a Dragon-Human union.
